Information on the Recreation Programs

Recreation Program Registration Policy
All Rumson Recreation sports programs conduct registrations prior to each season.
The registration forms are sent home through the public schools, posted on the website
and made available at the Rumson Borough Hall. Additionally, forms are provided to
Holy Cross School and Rumson Country Day School. Throughout the year program updates
are posted on the Borough’s telephone announcement system and registration due dates
are posted on the community bulletin board at the corner of Bingham Avenue and River Road.
The town newsletter also provides information regarding registrations for various recreation programs.
All registration forms identify a due date stating when the forms must be received with payment at the Rumson Borough Hall. All children who register by the due date are guaranteed an opportunity to play on a team during that season. Registrations received after the due date will be placed on teams if there are spots available on the team rosters. Once the draft has occurred and we tell the leagues the number of teams Rumson will enter, we are not permitted to add teams. A master schedule is developed by the league, which includes many surrounding towns. The league schedulers will not change an entire master schedule because a town wishes to add a team of late registrations.
Historically, there have been complaints from parents of children who registered on time as well as coaches regarding the addition of late registrations to teams, thus creating unmanageable rosters. Large rosters result in very limited playing time with too many children sitting on the bench. Because of this the Recreation Commission established guidelines for team roster size. This policy and the guidelines will be strictly adhered to.
Please make every effort to register your child on time for the various programs. Remember, children being placed on a waitlist is a totally avoidable situation if registrations are received on the due date. The goal of Rumson Recreation is to provide every child a safe, secure and fun filled recreational experience. Having children left on a waitlist throughout a season is as disappointing to us as it is to you.

The Borough of Rumson is
blessed with six magnificent parks, a public boat ramp and the historic Bingham Hall
Community Center.
 Victory Park
is located at the bottom of Lafayette Street off River Road in
the heart of town. This waterfront park boasts a new playground,
lovingly donated by a borough family. The bandstand was also
restored to its former glory by yet another Rumson family.
Victory Park also has two tennis courts with lighting, a
basketball court with lighting, a bocce court and a lovely
gazebo with benches overlooking the Navesink River.

 Piping Rock
Memorial Park
is on East River Road, close to the intersection with Ridge
Road. Piping Rock has a baseball field and is the practice
football field for Pop Warner Football. A lacrosse field
hosts the K-2 Clinic and 3rd and 4th Grade Girls Lacrosse.
Piping Rock also has a
playground and two tennis courts (one equipped with a hitting
wall) as well as a new Memorial Park.
This park is the beneficiary of the generosity of two Rumson
based memorial foundations.

 Rogers Park is
at the intersections of Church Street, Lafayette Street and
Allen Street. A true neighborhood park, Rogers Park has a
basketball court and two tennis courts and a playground. It
also has a small field used for informal local baseball and
football games.

 West Park is
another small neighborhood park. The park runs along both sides
of Rumson Road at the entrance to the Sea Bright Bridge. The
north side is an open field perfect for Frisbee and the southern
side has a small fenced in playground. Its location adjacent to
the Sea Bright Bridge make it a summertime favorite.

 Riverside Park is
one of the Borough’s busiest parks. Newly renovated in 2005,
Riverside Park has two new Baseball fields that can be
converted to soccer fields in the fall. There is a new small
playground to keep the little ones busy while their siblings
play ball. A walkway along the River has also been installed.
Riverside Park is located along the river at the end of
Riverside Drive and Wardell Avenue off of Rumson Road near the
Little Silver border.

Meadow Ridge is the largest of the Borough parks. Located on Ridge Road it spans
23 acres and has three fields, a small playground and a walking/jogging path.
The three fields are used for soccer, baseball and lacrosse. Most of the school teams
use these fields as their home field. The path meanders along the edges of the fields
and through the woods. Many area residents use the path for their daily exercise.
The outdoor exercise equipment at Meadow Ridge Park is designed to help individuals
of all ages and levels of fitness enjoy a healthy lifestyle. The equipment is designed
to improve cardiovascular health, strengthen muscles and enhance flexibility and balance.
A variety of equipment is available for individuals who wish to improve their conditioning.
The area has elliptical cross trainers, leg press, chest press, lat pull, pull up station and uneven bars.
The equipment features using your own body weight for resistance during the exercise routines.
A sign board provides an entry level suggestion for a workout with guidelines. Additional workouts may
be downloaded in PDF format.

 Bingham Hall -
The newly restored Bingham Hall serves as a community
recreational center that brings together many people who
utilize the facility for various meetings and functions.
The Garden
Club, Women’s Club, Boy Scouts, Senior Citizens Group,
as well as other organizations, conduct monthly
meetings, recreation organization meetings, fundraisers
and other related functions at Bingham Hall.
The
gardens provide a passive recreational area for
individuals who wish to stroll through the grounds or
stop and read or socialize while appreciating the beauty
of the plantings. |

 Boat
Ramp -
The Rumson Boat Ramp is located at the north
end of the Avenue of Two Rivers.
Both ANNUAL passes and ONE-Time* permits are available for purchase at Borough Hall.
Please call 732-842-3300 to obtain current fees.
* Please note that a One-Time permit is NOT a daily permit, but rather for use by anyone who docks their boat
at their home or a local marina and needs to put their boat in and take it out
once per year. This permit allows one launch and one pull-out only, not in
the same day.

The Borough of Rumson prides itself for
its wonderful parks and has pledged to maintain them and
continue to improve them throughout the years.
FIELD PERMIT REQUIREMENTS
You must obtain a Field Permit to
use the fields at Meadow Ridge Park, Piping Rock Park and
Riverside Park. The permit applications are available at Borough
Hall or click on Field Permit to print out a form. Requests must
be returned to Rumson Borough Hall with a Certificate of
Liability Insurance Form and are reviewed by the Parks
Department and the Recreation Department for approval.
TENNIS COURT RESERVATIONS
You must make reservations to use the
tennis courts at Victory Park, Rogers Park, and Piping Rock
Park. Reservations must be made in person at Borough Hall. There
is a sign up sheet in the vestibule of the Borough Clerks
office.
The Tennis courts at Victory Park are
equipped with lights for night time tennis.
